DNA Model Questions (Daisha & Tyler)

1. What is DNA?
DNA is short for Deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA is a molecule that contains the instructions an organism needs to develop and to reproduce. DNA is also an double Helix.

2. What are the building blocks of DNA called? Name the three main components of these building blocks.
The 4 main components of the building blocks of DNA are Adenine (A), Cytosine (C), Guanine (G) and Thymine (T).

3. Where in the eukaryotic cell is the DNA found?
In the eukaryotic cell DNA is found in the nucleus, the mitochondria, and the chloroplasts

4. List and describe as many functions of DNA in living things that you can think of (at least three!)
The main function/ role of DNA is the storage of information.

5. List each color that is represented for the nitrogenous bases located within the center of the molecule.
Blue, Grey, Red and Green

6. Examine the nucleotides. Draw and take a picture of a nucleotide and lable the three parts.
7. What type of bonds form between the nitrogen base pairs? (Look it up if nobody in the group knows.)
A glycosidic bond forms between a nitrogen base group.

8. What type of bonds form between the sugar- phosphate groups?
A covalent bond forms between the sugar- phosphate groups.

DNA MODEL (London)

•DNA is ones genetic information.
• The main 3 components in the model are the sugars the phosphates and the nitrogenous bases.
• DNA is found inside the nucleus of a cell.
•Grey
Green
Blue
Red

•hydrogen bonds form between the nitrogenous bases and they are weak so they are able to break apart

DNA Model Questions(your name here)

Answer the following questions and post your DNA pictures and for this blog.

1.      What is DNA?

2.      What are the building blocks of DNA called? Name the three main components of these building blocks.

3.      Where in a eukaryotic cell is DNA found?

4.      List and describe as many functions of DNA in living things that you can think of (at least three!)

Math Application:

1.      If a DNA molecule were composed of 10% guanine, what percents of the molecule would be made up of cytosine, adenine, and thymine? Show your work.
