Chapter 2

1.)  Priya has just lost her mother to an illness called Huntington's disease. It was hard for Priya to watch her mother die. First her mother had strange changes of mood. Then her arms and legs began twitching. Soon she couldn't talk or control her movements. In the end, she was totally bedridden and could barely get food down without choking.

2.) I would get tested for the disease because if i don’t do anything sooner i would probably die without getting treatment for the disease. This is the best decision to take.

3) If priya is tested and found to have the disease her future daughter and so on should know so they can be prepared.

4)The pros is that Priya has a treatment and she probably won't end up like her mother. If she gets this treatment she might live longer and also might live a happy life. The cons is that she will have to live with the disease for the rest of his life.

Human genome project-is an international scientific research project with the goal of determining the sequence of chemical base pairs which make up human DNA, and of identifying and mapping all of the genes of the human genome from both a physical and functional standpoint.

6. Describe the disease Priya's mother had?

Priya has just lost her mother to an illness called Huntington's disease.

7. If you were Priya, would you get tested for this disease? Why or Why not?

She is tempted to take the test. She thinks that if she could find out once and for all whether she will get the disease, she could plan for her future. On the other hand, she wonders if it is better not knowing.

8. If Priya is tested and found to have the gene for the disease, who else has a right to know? (her family, her employers, her boyfriend...) Explain your answer.

Yes she should let people know about it because if she is a carrier she can pass it on to her child.

9. What are the pros (good points) and cons (bad points) of having this genetic test performed?

pro is she getting checked out, con is that the test can tell her that she is a carrier.

1. What is wrong with Martin? Martin is an albino.

2. Do you think that Martin should have genetic treatment (if it were possible) to correct his problem? Why or why not? I think that he should get the genetic treatment because he might make not get sick. He do not need the treatment because he was born with albino it's not like it's a cure. The kids just half to accept him the way he is. His mother just needs to stop worrying so much about a treatment.

3. Do you think Martin should avoid having children in order to not pass along his condition? Why or why not? I think if he can he should so people shouldn't have to go through what he went through we he was a child.

4. What is the difference between ethical, legal, and social issues? Ethics is a moral system and what you think is right or wrong. Legal issues have to do with it being part of the law and it has to be done. Social issues have to deal with society and fitting in with everyone else or just trying to be you.

Pigment- is a material that changes the color of reflected or transmitted light as the result of wavelength-selective absorption.

Gene-  is a locus (or region) of DNA that encodes a functional RNA or protein product, and is the molecular unit of heredity.

1. Martin is an albino.

2. I don't that he should get the genetic treatment because he might make him sick. He do not need the treatment because he's born albino it's not like it's a cure. The kids just half to accept him the way he is. His mother just needs to stop worrying so much.

3. No I don't think Martin should avoid having children. If he has kids and they come out albino he just needs to accept them the way they are. If I was in his shoes I will still have kids.

4. The difference between ethical, legal, and social issues is Ethical Issues concern what is moral or right. Legal Issues concern the protections that laws or regulations should provide. Lastly Social Issues concern society as a whole will be affected by events.

5. Albino is when someone's skin has no color. Their very pale and have white hair. Genetics is the study of how traits are passed down, or inherited, from one generation to another. Pigment is the dye that colors the skin, eyes, and hair.

1. What is wrong with Martin ?

- Martin was bullied at school because he is albino.

2. Do you think that Martin should have genetic treatment (if it were possible) to correct his problem? Why or why not?

- No because being different makes a person stand out and be unique. Also everyone was born in different ways for a reason, so why waste money to change what makes him different. If he loves himself he don't need treatment.

- I think Martin should just adopt a baby rather than have a baby and deal with any issues of having an albino baby.

And social issues concern how society as a whole (and individuals in society) will be affected by events. To really get into all of these issues, you first need to know some of the basic science of genetics."

I think that Martin should not get it because even though he has this disease it's unfortunate. But he will still be able to live it also him having this he stands out and acts different from everyone else.

Martin should not have kids because it's already bad enough he has to go through it his self. This disease is going cause more stress for him and the child when he starts school. It's better if he just gets a adopted child.
