Virtual Lab-Punnett Squares

Complete the following virtual lab on Punnett Squares and send the results and write up directly to jaharris@dc.seedschooldc.org. The bottom ribbon has two links for table and journal which is where you can locate the submit tabs.  You must send this assignment individually to receive complete credit.

Larry Cheeks notes

1.Heredity is the passing on of genetic traits from parents to offspring.

2. The first person to notice this was Aristotle. He said " were each a mixture of our parents traits, with the father supplying life force and the mother supplying the building blocks.

3. The first person to start studying heredity in an modern way was Gregor Mendel.

4. We all have Chromosomes.

5. Human cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes.

6. Gene is an section of DNA in an specific location on an chromosomes.

7. Polygenic trait is many Genes.

8. Somatic is any cell in an animal body that is not an sperm or an egg.

9. Some plants have polyploid cells- They have more than two sets in each chromosome.

10. Every one inharets two alleles from their parents.

11. Reginald C. Punnett invented the punnett square as a way to diagram the outcome of a particular cross breeding experiment.

12. Ear wax and armpit sweat are produced by the same type of gland.

13. Pleiotropic is the gene affects how wet your ear wax is, and how much you stinck.

14. At that 23 pair of chromosomes have sex chromosomes.

15. Women have XX and men have one X.

Heredity Crash Course ( Dajhauna Wormley )

 1. Heredity is the passing on of traits from parents to offspring
2. Aristotle said " we're each a mixture of our parents traits with the father supplying life force and the mother supplying the building blocks "
3. Human Cells have 23 pairs of Chromosomes
4. Genes are sections of DNA
5. There are specific locations on chromosomes that contain information that determines a trait.
6. Polygenic Triat - a bunch of different genes working together.
7. Pleiotropic - a single gene can influence how multiple traits can be expressed ( ex: color )
8. Mendelian Trait - example .. dryness or wetness of earwax located at same spot ( chromosome 16 )
9. Gametes - sex cells
10. Polyploid cells mean they have more than two sets of chromosomes In each cell.
11. When there are two alelles that decide the outcome of the specific trait, one of those could be dominant and the other recessive.
12. Just because an allele is recessive , does not meant is less common in each when ethic material.
13. Everyone inherits two alleles from their parents.
14. Phenotype is expressed physically.
15. Males are XY and females are XX.

An'Drake Hall (15FACTS)

- NEREDITY  THE PASSING OF TRAITS FROM PARENTS TO THE OFFSPRING
-HEREDITY IS THE FORM OF PARENTS TO KIDS
-EVERY HUMAN HAS CHROMOSOMES
- HUMAN  CELLS HAS 28 PAIRS OF CHROMOSOMES
- IF BOTH OF YOUR PARENTS HAS THE SAME TYPE OF EARWAX YOU WILL GET IT RANDOMLY THREW YOU
- ONE PAIR OF CHROMOSOMES ARE SEX PAIRS
THE DEFINITION OF ALLELE IS ONE OF TWO OR MORE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF AGENE
-ONE INNERITED FROM EACH PARENT
-DIPLOID MEANS THERE ARE TWO SETS CHROMOSOMES
- 22 PAIRS OF CHROMOSOMES ARE OUTOSOMES
- EARWAX AND ARMPIT SWEAT ARE PRODUCED BY SAME GLAND
- HOMOZYGOUS MEANS ONE EACH OF TWO DIFFERENT ALLELES
-  HETEROZYGOUS MEANS SHE HAS TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME GENE FROM EACH OF HER PARENTS
-  THE FIRST PERSON TO START STUDYING REREDITY WAS GREGOR MERDEL
-ARISTOTLE SAID WE HAVE A MIXTURE OF OUR PARENT TRAITS AND RATHER SUPPLYING THE BUILDING BLOCKS
-THE STUDY OF NEREDITY MEANS ANCIENT-

Heredity Crash Course 15 Facts(Tyler Butler)

1. Heredity is the passing of genetic traits from offspring.
2. Aristotle believed that we're each a mixture of our traits with the father supplying life force and the mother supplying building blocks
3. Aristotle also believed that semen was highly purified blocks.
4. Gregor Mendel spent an unhealthy amount of time with pea plants
5. Classical Genetics is how traits get passed from children
6. Human cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes
7. A gene is a section of DNA that contains information
8. Polygenic Trait is many genes
9. Pleiotropic is multiple traits
10. Mebdelian Trait example wetness/dryness of ear wax
11. Allele can tell what is wet or dry
12. Somatic two sets of chromosomes from parents

14. Haploid has one set of chromosomes
15. Polyploid more than two sets of chromosome.

Heredity 15 facts (JieJer Patrick)

1) no body was aware of chromosomes till the 20th centry

2) Heredity- the passing of genetics from parent to off spring.

3) Aristostle thought the father supplied the life force and the mother put it all together

4) stotle thought the semen was menstrual blood

5) in the 1800s Greg Mendel came up how genetics are passed down

6) inheritance follows particular patterns

7) eurokarytic cells have chromosomes

8) human cells has 23 pair of chromosomes

9) chromosomes 16 decides on if you eat is wet or dry

10) hamsters on have pair of chromosomes

11) sex cells are call Gamates

12) homozguys is when both allels are being passed on are the same

13) Heteroguys unlike homozguys are both allels that are different

14) phenotype is when what is expressed is physical

15) I'm a Xy cause I'm a male
