Does It Run In the Family?

Does it Run In The Family?

Many things shape who we are.  Some things such as genes- are outside of our control.  Other things such as what we eat, whether we exercise, or whether we smoke -influence our growth, development, and overall health.  Collect information about your heritage and culture.    Make sure you choose someone who is a willing participant.  We will eventually create a pedigree to trace your family history much like genetic counselors.  Interview someone in your family and collect the following information;

Name and relationship to you
Ethnicity/race
Date of birth
Place of Birth
any history of diseases, defects, disorders, and allergies for example sickle cell, high blood pressure, diabetes, cleft plate or lip
Lifestyle - exercise regimen if any, hobbies, habits, nutrition(i.e.,vegetarian, only eats chicken, no pork), visit dentists every 6 months
How would they rate their stress level from 1-5,  with 5 being high stress level
Take a picture of your family member on your phone so that they can be a part of our gene linkage project.

Enjoy your weekend and blog your info no later than Sunday by 11:59pm.  Label your post - Genetics Project
