Jared Benjamin- Crash Course Mitosis

1)  In your body, what can clone itself?
Cells.

2)  What process is used to repair cells?
Mitosis.

3)  In the video Hank gives examples, list some.
If you get a cut, mitosis replaces. if you drink too much, it damages your liver and mitosis replaces.

4) How does a 7 pound baby turn into a 70 pound child?
Its not cells increasing in mass, its them duplicating over and over.

5) About how many times does mitosis happen in a lifetime?

10,000,000,000,000,000 times.

6) What stores DNA in a cell?

Nucleus.

7) How is the DNA organized in your cells?

DNA is organized into chromosomes.

8) What type of cells are the 46 chromosomes?

Diploid Cells.

9) What are the phases of mitosis?

Nuclear division plus cytokinesis, and produces two identical daughter cells during prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

10) What type of cells are sex cells?

Gametes.

11) Most cells spend their life in what phase?

Interphase.

12) What phase does the chromatin start to condense into chromosomes?

Prophase.

13)  When does the nuclear envelope disintegrate?

Prophase.

14) What are the jobs of the microtubules?

They are the conveyor belts of the cell. they move vesicles, organelles and more.

15) Who first observed the process of mitosis?

Walter Flemming.

16) What does mitosis mean?

Thread.

17) What is the most recent discovery of mitosis discovered by an MIT student?

chromosome alignment.

18) Which phase separates the chromosomes?

Anaphase.

19) What does the prefix "ana" mean?

Again or anew.

20) What happens in telpohase?

Chromosomes appear as chromatin, two new nuclei appear.

21) What is the division of two cells called?

Diploid.

22)What are the names of the two new cells?

Daughter cells.
