Bioethics Discussion Question Chapter 3 & 4 (Destiny)



Chapter 3

1. The doctor told Howard that he is most likely to die of a heart attack because his grandfather, father, and uncle died of a heart attack when they were in their 50's.
2. 
* They are carriers of the gene
* How they live their life. Making sure they are healthy and do things that makes them more likely to have it
* The strength of the gene can affect the progress of it later on in life
3. It help because it show you are you most likely to get a disease according to your DNA
4. No the police should not be informed because its none of their business. The person should be informed that they have a criminal gene and the doctor should suggest for the person to go to someone to help them.

Genetic Expression: The process by which information from a gene is used in the synthesis of a functional gene product.
Genetic Determinism: the mechanism by which genes determine morphological and behavioral phenotype.
Behavioral Genetics: is the study of genetic and environmental influences on behaviors. 

Chapter 4

1. If i was Mollie i would get tested to see if i am a carrier of the CF gene.
2. The symptoms of the disease are hard time breathing, hard time digesting food, and abdomen pain 
3. The reproductive technology is can increase their chances of having a healthy baby because they are more aware and know what their baby genes are.
4. I think they should because they should at least see what happen because it can be a miracle and the baby don't end up with CF but that shouldn't stop them from doing what they want to do. 
5. The pregnancy should not be terminated because its still a baby in there. They don't what going to happen when the baby come. But also everyone have different opinions on things like that.
6. It can help them have a healthy child because it can make sure that the baby won't have the disease.
7. In the future i think that it will be possible for the parents to figure out everything about the baby before it is born because the genes tell everything about the baby and what its going to look like and personality things.

DNA Marker: A gene or other fragment of DNA whose location in the genome is known.
