Dajhauna's Chapter 5-7 Questions


Chapter 5-
24. 
Yes I would give the police a sample of the hair  because that should be very accurate and narrow it down to the suspect and who the suspect is.

25. List 3 ways in which DNA fingerprints have been used: 
To track criminals 
Identify murder victims 
To identify soldiers killed in combat

26.DNA samples can give a lot of information and the person might also give a DNA sample so that they won't look guilty. 

27. The courts might throw out the evidence because the case was already solved and the murdered was found already. Keeping the DNA could violate someone's privacy. 

28. 
No but yes DNA can violate someone's privacy because DNA test can give more information that a fingerprint can. The FBI or the people working on the case should be responsible for storing someone's DNA so that way it can be kept in a more safe place.
Chapter 6 -
29. If I were Elsa and John, i would not use the hormones on the cows because most customers are afraid to drink milk from these cows because they don't believe that this milk is 100% safe.

30. Biotech labs produce improved forms of crops, super sized animals and more healthful foods.

31. Animals rights activist are against using BGH on cows because they do not believe that people should use chemicals on animals. 

32. Some people think that biotech engineers are "playing God" because they try to create new things and interfere with the natural resources and things that God has already created, I do believe this is a true statement.

selective breeding-the process by which humans use animal breeding and plant breeding to selectively develop particular phenotypic traits 

transgenic-denoting an organism that contains genetic material into which DNA from an unrelated organism has been artificially introduced


Chapter 7 - 
34. Rico and Tim should be treated differently because Tim isn't growing because of his hormones, and Rico isn't growing because of what he has inherited from his parents. 

35. I believe both boys should be given the hormone because they both want to grow and it's not either of their fault as to why they aren't growing. 

36. The term "eugenics" is controversial because the meaning makes it seem that because someone is born a certain way, they aren't as good as someone else is, and that doesn't sit well with a lot of people. 
37. Vocabulary

gene therapy- the transplantation of normal genes into cells in place of missing or defective ones in order to correct genetic disorders. 

germ-line therapy- all cells in the human body that contain genes are considered apart of the germ line therapy
