chapter 1-2 questions

Biology questions Chapter 1-2

1. Martin is albino and gets sick from time to time.
2. I don't think Martin should get genetic treatment because there can be side affects and he can have bigger issues with the treatment.
3. I don't think Martin should avoid having kids because it is a trait anyone can get. even though it is generic Martin should be able to live his life to the fullest and be able to do the same things any other person can do.
4. Ethical concerns ones morals or values, legal is what concerns the law and whats justified or not, and social deals with the society as a whole.
5. Albino- A person or animal with lost of pigment in their skin or hair.

  Genetics- The study of traits and inherited characteristics.

  Pigment- The dye that colors the skin, eyes, and hair of a human or animal.

  Gene- Locus in DNA that encodes a functional RNA or protein production. It is the molecular unit of heredity.

6. Priyas mother has Huntington's disease  which mainly only happens to middle age people. The symptoms are mood swings, uncontrolled arms and legs, and movement period.
7. Yes i would get tested for the disease if i was Priya. Even the it mostly happens to middle age people when it comes to genetics you can inherit anything your mother or father had.
8. Everyone has the right to know accept for the employees. The family has the right to know because it is genetic and they might have a trace of it or even fully have the disease. The boyfriend has the right to know because if he decides to have kids with Priya he should be prepared if his kids get the disease. The employees don't have a right to know because that's just noisy and none of there concerns.
9. The pros are that you can be prepared for it and treat it. The cons are that you cant prevent and you can loose control of your movements at anytime.
10. Stethoscope genetic counseling- The counseling of individuals with established or potential genetic problems, concerned with inheritance patterns and risk to future offspring.
     
     Mutation- The changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes.

     Human Genome Project- The Human Genome Project (HGP) is an international scientific research project with the goal of determining the sequence of chemical base pairs which make up human DNA, and of identifying and mapping all of the genes of the human genome from both a physical and functional standpoint.

   Disorder- a disruption of normal physical or mental functions; a disease or abnormal condition.
